How emotional distress associated with persistent musculoskeletal pain is addressed can significantly influence patients’ experiences and outcomes.
Yet, concepts such as pain-related distress are often poorly understood or confused with other psychological factors, limiting their integration into everyday clinical practice. To explore this issue, the European project DIGI4MSK will host its tenth webinar on March 5, 2026, featuring Prof. Tamar Pincus, an internationally recognised psychologist and expert in chronic pain.
At IRUDIEU, Irudigital’s brand specialised in communication and dissemination for European projects, we actively support the promotion of this session due to its direct relevance for healthcare professionals working with people living with persistent musculoskeletal pain.
Pain-related distress: what it is, what it is not, and why it matters
Entitled “Pain-related distress in persistent musculoskeletal pain: what it is, what it is not, and why it matters in clinical practice”, the webinar will focus on a key concept for better understanding patients’ lived experiences of pain.
During the session, Prof. Pincus will explore:
- What pain-related distress is — and what it is not.
- How it differs from other psychological factors.
- Why it is relevant for both short- and long-term clinical outcomes.
- How communication, validation and reassurance can improve patient engagement and self-management.
Drawing on the latest evidence, the session will provide practical tools to help professionals recognise this form of distress, build trust and deliver more person-centred care that supports recovery.
A session designed for real-world practice
The webinar will last 60 minutes, including:
- 45 minutes of presentation by Prof. Tamar Pincus.
- 15 minutes of live Q&A and discussion, allowing participants to exchange perspectives with colleagues from across Europe.
This session is part of the DIGI4MSK webinar series, which aims to improve musculoskeletal health literacy and bridge the gap between research, clinical practice and society.
